Gloster Meteor

Gloster Meteor
Designed by George Carter, the Meteor was originally named the Thunderbolt, but was changed to avoid confusion with the American P-47. At first it was a poor performer until technology developed by Rolls Royce transformed this aircraft into a multi-role machine with outstanding speed, climb and acceleration rates.

In 1944 one of its first tasks was chasing and destroying the V1 Flying Bomb "Doodlebug" with considerable success.
